# File and folder uploads

> Upload existing Markdown files and folders into the context repository

## Overview

Add existing Markdown files and folder structures to the context repository from the **Context** tab. Permission to create content in the destination is required.

***

## Supported files and limits

* Markdown (`.md`) files only, up to **50 KB per file**.
* Up to **50 Markdown files per upload**.
* Conversion from PDFs, Word documents and other formats is not yet supported.

***

## Uploading files and folders

**1. Choose the destination**

In **Context**, select **New file or folder → Upload** to upload at the repository root. To upload into a folder, use that folder's add menu and select **Upload**.

**2. Select files or a folder**

Choose **Browse files** or **Browse folder**, or drag files and folders into the upload area.

**3. Review the preview**

Check the folder structure, names and skipped files. Remove any files or folders that should not be included, then select **Upload**.

**4. Check the report**

Review the per-file results and any reasons for skipped or failed files before selecting **Done**.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Upload received** confirms submission. Files appear in the context repository once the change is applied.

## Names and existing files

Uploaded folders retain their structure. Names may be normalized or given a numbered suffix to avoid duplicates. Existing files are not overwritten.

Uploads create [changes](https://docs.qontext.ai/features/change-reviews.md). Files that are still waiting to be applied can be checked in **Changes**.
